  We have been buying gold from Joyalukkas for the last couple of years, mainly from their branches in India, and have always had a very good experience. Because of that trust in the brand, we travelled from Brisbane to Melbourne and decided to purchase from the Melbourne branch. Unfortunately, our experience at the Melbourne branch was disappointing, mainly because of the pricing. We were charged a 24% making charge and were told it had already been reduced from 29%, with no further flexibility. After comparing similar jewellery with other jewellers, we found making charges of around 18% for comparable items. We were also charged $198.80 per gram for 22K gold. When we compared rates with other local jewellers, including Dhunna Jewellers, we found their gold rate was approximately $8–$10 per gram lower around the same time. For a substantial gold purchase, the combination of the higher gold rate and 24% making charge makes a significant difference to the final price. Considering we had travelled all the way from Brisbane and were returning customers who had previously trusted the Joyalukkas brand, we expected more competitive pricing. The jewellery itself is beautiful, and our previous experiences with Joyalukkas in India have been excellent. However, this Melbourne experience was not at the same level. I would strongly recommend customers compare both the per-gram gold rate and making charges with other jewellers before purchasing, rather than focusing only on an advertised reduction in making charges. I hope Joyalukkas Melbourne considers offering more competitive pricing and better value, particularly for loyal and returning customers.
